IS MY HORSE ELIGIBLE?

​There are 3 important requirements as follows:

1. Age
The horse must be at least 3 years of age.

2. Registration
All horses MUST be pedigree registered – DNA parentage verified and microchipped.
If you are interested in having your horse assessed and he or she is not yet registered, then please start the process immediately by ordering your DNA kit as soon as possible.

3. Breeding
The horse must be the progeny of:

    • Registered Irish Draught (RID) parents OR
    • A Registered Irish Draught stallion (RID) or mare, and a Thoroughbred stallion or mare of provable breeding (ASB registered, ASB verified, ASB passport etc.) Please note that ISH stallions are not eligible to be studbook assessed, nor are their progeny. 

OR

    • A Registered SID or AID mare (Irish Draught Studbook Approved) and a Registered Irish Draught (RID) stallion
    • A pedigree registered ISH mare (with approved breeding) and a Registered Irish Draught (RID) stallion

Fillies must have at least 1/2 (50% or greater) provable Registered Irish Draught blood.
Colts will only be inspected if both parents are RIDs.

JOINING THE TOUR
If you would like your horse assessed during a tour, please complete an Expression of Interest so that we can make provisions to see your horse.

Once our dates and locations are arranged, we will send you the necessary links to complete the required paperwork.

NO horses will be accepted after that time.

If your horse is inspected, passes and is registered into the Irish Draught Studbook, he/she may be branded with the Society’s shamrock flank brand and bar underneath

    • Purebred colts and stallions that fail RID inspection for the Irish Draught Horse Stud Book are ineligible for any registration with IDSHS
    • Progeny of failed colts and stallions are NOT eligible to be ISH pedigree registered*
    • Mares and fillies that fail inspection for the Irish Draught Horse Stud Book remain on the Irish Sport Horse Register
    • Older Irish Draught Stud Book mares graded D, C or B on their Registration Papers are classed as Supplementary Irish Draught (SID) This includes 1/2 bred RID x TB and 3/4 bred RID x SID cross mares
